COMPLIANCE
HIPAA Compliance
BCC’s workforce is trained on policies and procedures developed for HIPAA compliance. Prior to releasing any trainee to the collection floor, each employee is tested individually on HIPAA and will not be permitted to leave the training program, or make contact with any patient, until he/she satisfactorily passes the training program. Updates are provided regularly, and it is mandatory for all collection personnel to review HIPAA and be re-tested on an annual basis. Training materials include general and customized HIPAA modules, which provide a comprehensive training solution for each level of the organization’s hierarchy. Subject matter includes but is not limited to:
• Privacy Standard
• Security Standard
• Administrative Safeguards
• Physical Safeguards
• Technical Safeguards
• Electronic Transaction Standard
As each subject matter is completed, a test is administered to gauge the level of understanding reached by the employee. A passing grade must be obtained before the Account Representative is released to the floor.
Collection personnel are provided with written training manuals for reference purposes after initial training.
Once an employee successfully completes the testing stage, he/she is ready to be assigned an active work queue where day-to-day monitoring of performance is conducted by the employee’s immediate Supervisor. In addition to supervisory monitoring, a comprehensive audit is performed thirty (30) days after assignment to the respective department. The audit findings are documented and discussed in detail with the Account Representative in order to reinforce positive work ethics and identify areas needing improvement. Based on audit findings, an action plan is then developed and a sixty (60) day goal is established.
The Red Flag Rule
Widely known as Identity Theft Act, is fully implemented at BCC. We have policies and procedures already in place to deal with any type of red flag alert. Should there be an alert, it is immediately brought to the attention of our privacy officer for handling.
FDCPA Compliance
Prior to releasing any trainee to the collection floor, each employee is tested individually on the FDCPA and will not be permitted to leave the training program, or make contact with any patient, until he/she satisfactorily passes the training program. Updates are provided regularly, and it is mandatory for all collection personnel to review the FDCPA and be re-tested on an annual basis.
